ABCs of Yoga for Kids
May 14, 2009 by The Dove

Why it’s great: Using the alphabet, rhyming vignettes and fun illustrations, The ABCs of Yoga for Kids by Teresa Anne Power, promotes flexibility and coordination, while encouraging over-stimulated children to incorporate healthy activity to their day.
Whos reading it: Three to eight-year-olds, whose parents want to help their child develop flexibility, coordination, focus, strength, while becoming calmer and more self-aware. Yoga also benefits sports-loving kids (think volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, dance, martial arts).
What theyll learn: David Simon, M.D., medical director of the Chopra Center for Wellbeing and author of The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga and Free to Love, Free to Heal, says, “This charming book lovingly connects our next generation of yogis to their bodies and their world. Establishing this connection early in our children’s lives gives me hope for our planet.” Sinjin Smith, Olympian and World Champion Beach Volleyball Player, concurs: “Yoga helped me compete at the highest level of my sport well into my forties. Many people think yoga is only for adults, but this book makes us realize that yoga’s benefits can now be shared with children as well, enabling them to enjoy life to the fullest by staying active and healthy starting early on.”

Great post! The benefits of yoga are still unknown to many people. Different types of yoga have different effect on our health. However, it is important to understand the yoga basics so that the practitioner can perform the asanas perfectly and experience the benefits of yoga.
